Dr Elena López Gunn is the Founder and Director of ICATALIST and a Visiting Fellow at University of Leeds. She has a PhD from King's College, London, a master's from the University of Cambridge, and a master's in Investigative Journalism from the University Juan Carlos I with “El Mundo” newspaper. She was an Associate Professor at IE Business school, Senior Fellow at the Water Observatory of the Botin Foundation and an Alcoa Fellow at the London School of Economics.
Professionally, Elena has collaborated with a number of organizations including UNESCO, FAO, UNDP, EU DG RTD, universities and river basin agencies, municipalities and regional governments, as well as the private sector like Repsol, and NGOs like Transparency International or Fundacion Botin and Fundacion Montemadrid.
She has published on a range of topics on water security, social innovation, collaborative decision making, water governance, and evaluation of public policy. She was deputy coordinator for the EU H2020 EDUCEN project on Culture and Disasters. Leads WP7 of H2020 BRIGAID project (https://brigaid.eu/) on bridging the gap in innovation for disaster helping to develop communities of innovation. She is scientific coordinator for H2020 NAIAD project (www.naiad2020.eu).
