Andy Deacon is director of strategy and operation for the Global Covenant of Mayors for Climate and Energy, a global alliance of cities and local governments with a shared long-term vision of promoting and supporting voluntary action to combat climate change and move to a low-carbon, resilient society. Andy has recently taken up a new role with the team there and will guide programme delivery across a number of GCoM’s programmes, including work on financing climate action.Immediately prior to his new role, Andy was Policy Coordinator for Climate Alliance, where among other projects, he was project technical coordinator for the series of EU Sustainable Energy Investment Forums. Andy has worked for 20 years across a range of environmental protection issues focusing on climate change, energy and air quality in local, regional and central government, academia and the third sector. He has been part of and led major initiatives on city carbon reduction strategies, community energy, large-scale home retrofit financing, household energy saving behaviour, and air pollution assessment and management. Andy has a BSc in Geography and Environmental Studies from the University of Surrey Roehampton Institute and an MSc in Applied Meteorology and Climatology from the University of Birmingham.
